Last Saturday Kircubbin hosted high flying Newtownbreda FC down the peninsula, and with the visitors pushing for promotion the home team knew they were in for a tough match. Yet again the weather played a big part in the game with a strong wind blowing off the shore. Breda won the toss and elected to play against the wind in the first half, giving Kircubbin the opportunity to use the wind advantage for the opening 45 minutes. But a bizzare own goal by Paddy OPrey gifted the visitors the lead and this proved to be the deciding factor in the match. For all Kircubbin's advantage in the opening period, they couldn't manage to break down the stubborn Breda defence, and barely troubled the visiting keeper for the entire first half. Breda didn't create many chances themselves in the opening period as they were concentrating on their defencive efforts against the wind.

In the second half Kircubbin played better football, and indeed could have equalised when new signing Declan Kelly was fouled inside the box. But Jonnie Clarke missed the resulting spot kick, and Breda held on to their slim advantage. Kircubbin had a few other half chances to equalise but the Breda defence was well marshalled and they managed to keep Kircubbin at bay. Final score 0-1, which pushes Breda up to second place in the league.

This week the team are at home to third place Iveagh, team to meet at 1pm.
