Match Report
27th September 2008
Last weekend Kircubbin travelled to Belfast to play Santos looking for their first competitive win of the season. Santos had a much different game plan though and took an early lead with a powerful drive from inside the box, with poor marking from Kircubbin. Santos doubled their lead on the half hour with a well worked goal curling into the corner of the net. 2-0 at the break.
But the Kircubbin lads were sparked into action in the second half following some sharp words or reality from the manager. The defense and midfield tightened their grip on the game and pushed forward looking to reduce the deficit. Time was running out, but Kircubbin's pressure finally paid off late in the game when Fergal Bell calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to give the visitors a fighting chance. In the dying seconds of the game the final chance for Kircubbin fell to substitute striker Mark "Magic" Morrison, unfortunately the oncoming keeper was able to smother the ball and effectively secure all three points for the home team. Final score 2-1.
This week the team are at home to Queens Grads. Team to meet at 1pm.
On Saturday 4th Oct. Kircubbin are holding their annual fund raising evening in Gilmores Bar commencing at 8.30pm. Your continuing support would be much appreciated.
