Last Saturday Kircubbin played hosts to Holywood Rec FC, another team lying at the wrong end of the table, and with Kircubbin currently lying in second place, another three points looked inevitable. A lethargic display from the home team allowed Holywood to do all the pressing in the opening 45 minutes of the game. The visitors took a well deserved lead early in the game as the Kircubbin team weren't given any time to settle on the ball. The energetic hustling from the Holywood team gave Kircubbin problems and the home team just didn't seem to get going.

With an abundance of talent on the bench Francis McCann and Ciaran Taylor both came on at half time as stand in manager Brendan Masterson looked for a bit more urgency from his team. But the lethargy continued from Kircubbin, and Holywood were first to strike to extend their lead to 2-0. Minutes later however Holywood gifted Kircubbin a goal when the keeper spilled a weak shot allowing Matthew Clarke to slip the ball into an empty net. With twenty minutes left to play Kircubbin had gradually clawed themselves back into the game, but a horrific injury to Kircubbin's goal keeper caused the game to be abandoned, following a late tackle from the Holywood striker. Later in the day the news filtered through to the team the Eugene McGrattan had broken both bones in the lower leg, a terrible injury and everyone at Kircubbin Football Club wishes "Chippy" a speedy recovery. Holywood Rec and many other Amateur league clubs have also sent their best wishes to Chippy, who is well know throughout the local footballing community. Final score after 70 minutes 1-2.

This week the team will look to regain a bit of form away to Finaghy. Team to leave at noon sharp.
