On Saturday the team hosted Finaghy, who are currently languishing at the foot of the table and almost guaranteed to be in one of the two relegation spots. The visiting team however were much changed from earlier in the season when Kircubbin recorded a comfortable victory so it was difficult to know what to expect. Kircubbin played the first half with the advantage of a strong breeze, but this hindered Kircubbin's passing game as it was difficult to control the ball. Fifteen minutes into the game the opening goal was scored by Mick O'Prey, and it looked as though the flood gates could be about to open. But Finaghy managed to play the offside trap well and kept Kircubbin at bay for the remainder of the half.
With only a one goal advantage and now playing into the wind, Kircubbin needed another goal to kill off the potential threat from Finaghy. Kircubbin were now able to control the game better with the ball moving quickly, especially on the wings where Adam Arthurs and Brendan Masterson were causing the visiting defence all kinds of trouble. Turlough Bell scored a second goal on the counter attack for Kircubbin, which was the start of a goal feast for Kircubbin. Adam added to his personal tally for the year with a fine solo effort, cutting in from the left wing and slotting the ball low past the keeper at the near post. This was followed by two superb strikes, first a volley from Mick from the edge of the box and then a ferocious drive high into the roof of the net from Turlough. Matthew Clarke scored another two for Kircubbin to complete the rout at 7-0. Finaghy scored a late consolation goal to leave the final score a comfortable 7-1 victory to Kircubbin.
This week the lads face league leaders Immaculata away on Thursday night, followed by a trip away to Temple on Saturday.
