Match Report

22nd November 2008

Kircubbin's only league victory so far this saeson was away to Kilroot Rec, so when the Antrim team travelled down the peninsula the Kircubbin team was full of confidence of picking up another three points. David Arthurs scored early on for Kircubbin with a powerful dipping shot from the edge of the box to give Kircubbin the perfect start to the game. Several more chances ensued but Kircubbin couldn't quite get the ball over the line. Then out of nowhere the referee awarded Kilroot a goal, even though both teams admitted that the ball was nowhere near over the line. An unbelieveable decision by an apparently experienced offical referee. Somehow but for all Kircubbin's pressure the scores remained level at the break.

Kilroot tried to play the offside trap very high up the pitch and Kircubbin were able to break though it on several occasions. But the Kilroot keeper was quick off his line on more that one occasion to quash the danger. Matthew Torney broke through down the left wing and crossed the ball to David Arthurs for an easy tap in for his second goal, but the Kilroot defence made a last ditch tackle to prevent the ball crossing the line. But Adam Arthurs was on hand to convert the rebound to reinstate the Kircubbin advantage. More Kircubbin chances followed, but again a lack of composure infront of goal and some good saves from the Kiroot keeper kept them in the game. With time running out, Kircubbin looked to be heading for all three points and a deserved victory, but a mix up from the Kircubbin midfield allowed Kilroot to score the easiest of second goals to tie the game at 2-2. In the dying seconds the visitors nearly stole all the points but Fintan Bell in goals made a fine save to salvage a point for the home team. Final score 2-2.

This week the team are away to Temple in the league. Transport to leave at 12 noon.
