Kircubbin travelled to play Holywood Rec last Saturday, with weather conditions perfect for playing football. Holywood are one of the few teams to have taken points off Kircubbin this season, so the visitors knew they were up for a tough encounter.

The opening period of play was very cautious from both teams, each showing the other mutual respect. Chances were at a premium and neither team created a clear cut scoring opportunity. Holywood battled well all over the pitch and their physical play was restricting the flow of the game. The opening goal of the game came just minutes before the interval when Turlough Bell flicked a corner goal wards and the keeper could only parry the ball into his own net. 0-1 at half time.

The second half was a more open game with Kircubbin exploiting space on the wings, especially on the left where Adam Arthurs had an excellent 45 minutes. Matthew Clarke missed an open net from only six yards out following a mazy run down the line from Adam, it can only be described as the miss of the season. Minutes later however Adam scored a break away goal to give Kircubbin a two goal lead. Things then got worse for Holywood as a lack of discipline saw one player sent off and seven more players yellow carded. Kircubbin's numerical advantage then paid dividends as they managed to control the game all over the pitch. On the odd occasion when Holywood did break into the Kircubbin box poor finishing and indecision restricted their scoring chances. Mick O'Prey sealed the game off with another well worked goal, and an own goal in the dying minutes of the game finished the scoring for Kircubbin. A well deserved 4-0 victory keeps Kircubbin's promotion hopes alive.

This week the team travel to Whitehead on Tuesday night, with a home fixture against Finaghy on Saturday.
