Match Report

15th November 2008

Kircubbin hosted Ballyclare outfit Grange FC in their 6th league game of the 2008/09 campaign. In what was a quiet first half affair, chances were few and far between for both teams, and the only notable attack from Grange resulted in the opening goal on the half hour mark. The big striker headed home powerfully from 6 yards following a free-kick from the corner of the box, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Kircubbin came out much better in the second period and started to dominate the game, Matthew Torney, Ciaran Taylor and Jonnie Clarke all wasting chances to level the scores. On 70 minutes Kircubbin's dominance and persistence finally paid off. Matthew Torney rounded the defender on the left flank and unleashed a ferocious drive from 25 yards into the top corner of the net. Easily the best piece of individual skill for the entire match. Kircubbin pushed for a winner which looked on the way, but a defensive mix up between Ciaran Taylor and Cahal McGrattan, when they both seemed to leave the ball for each other, allowed the Grange striker to take the ball into the box and finish into the net unchallenged. Kircubbin rallied again but a series of late misses and a dubious decision by the referee to disallow another Matthew Torney strike ensured the game ended 2-1 to the visitors. All a case of missed opportunities for Kircubbin who could have and should have taken at least a point from the game.

Next week the lads are at home again, this time to Kilroot FC. Team to meet at 1pm sharp.
