Kircubbin knew they were up against tough opposition on Saturday in the form of Immaculata FC. The pedigree of the visitors was evident from the bounty of trophies the club have amassed over the last two seasons. The current Junior Cup, Junior Shield and Clarence Cup holders were possibly going to prove to be Kircubbin's toughest game of the season, and this task was made even more difficult following injuries to Cahal McGrattan and Ross McCann, two of Kircubbin's regulars.

Kircubbin may well have been overawed by their opponents in the opening minutes, as they found themselves two goals down from almost identical circumstances. Both goals came from a long throw into the box and a simple header into the net. Gradually Kircubbin did come out of their shell and tried to play some decent football on the ground against a strong wind in the first half. But the chances created by Fintan, Shaun and Matthew were all comfortably saved by the visiting keeper. On the half hour mark Immaculata's dominance with the wind showed, as two further goals followed in quick succession to effectively end the tie as a contest.

Kircubbin lost the advantage of the breeze in the second half as the wind subsided, but they were spurred into action as Turlough and Ciaran both had chances which went narrowly wide. The elusive break through goal never materialised for Kircubbin and when Immaculata scored a fifth goal the Kircubbin team seemed to loose heart. The goal was an almost carbon copy of the opening two with a long throw into the box resulting in a simple goal. Very disappointing from the manager's perspective that the team didn't learn from their early mistakes. The goal of the game came with ten minutes to go as a perfectly executed curling lob beat Kircubbin's keeper from over 720 yards out. In the dying seconds a seventh goal was added to the visitors tally but by this stage it was purely statistical. Final score 0-7.

This week Kircubbin must get back to winning ways when they travel away to Whitehead in the league. Team to leave at noon sharp. Remember you can keep up to date with Kircubbin's progress on the club website kircubbinfc.com.
