Kircubbin travelled to Crumlin Rec. on Saturday looking to build on last week's successful start to the league campaign. The home team started brightly with a quick attack from the kick off, but Kircubbin's defense coped easily with the threat. As the game settled down it became apparent that Crumlin were not going to be bowled over as easily as last weeks opponents as they played a very physical game all over the pitch. But it was Kircubbin who got the initial break through goal with a quick counter attack. Turlough Bell collected the long ball and chipped the advancing keeper to give Kircubbin a well deserved lead. Crumlin protested at the goal, and two players were cautioned by the referee. Minutes later one of those players was sent off for a second caution, and this gave Kircubbin an additional lift in the game.
The second half started in a similar vein, with the home team pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Kircubbin doubled their advantage after ten minutes when Turlough Bell was crudely chopped down inside the box and Fintan dispatched the resulting penalty. The Crumlin team then lost all discipline as further yellow cards ensued. Turlough scored his second of the game, cutting in from the right wing and sliding the ball under the keeper. Shortly after that, Crumlin were reduced to nine, as one player head-butted a Kircubbin player right in front of the referee. Substitute David (Pinkie) Arthurs scored his first of the season with a headed goal from inside the box. Gareth Finnegan finished off the rout for Kircubbin scoring a break away goal in the dying minutes. Final score 5-0 to the visitors.
This week the lads are at home to PSNI. Team to meet at 1pm.
