Kircubbin faced Wesley in their final league game of 2008/09 season, with both sides in the bottom third but safe from relegation, an open free flowing game was on hand for both sets of supporters.

The visitors opened the scoring after 15 minutes, their striker one on one blasting into the top corner of the net.

Only minutes later though Kircubbin were level, Declan Kelly had his close range header saved only for Matthew Torney to scramble home the rebound, level at the break.

It was Wesley who again regained the lead on 54 minutes, a series of mistakes by the Kircubbin defense allowing the winger to square the ball for his team-mate to slide into the open net from close range.

In a tactical revamp the Kircubbin manager threw on veterans Stephen Clarke and Fergal Bell, both defenders but for one day only formed what was to be Kircubbin's strike force for the last twenty minutes.

The result was instant with Fergal and Brendan combining to swing the ball into box from the right, Stephen was on hand to volley home from 10 yards to bring the teams back on level terms.

With the draw looking likely Kircubbin’s Declan Kelly attempted headed back pass under no pressure, however it went straight to the on running Wesley player who slotted home to make it 3-2, although the stand-in keeper could have done better.

Kircubbin pushed everyone up for the equalizer including keeper Fintan bell but the visiting side held on for their away win.

Final score Kircubbin 2-3 Wesley.
