Match Report

4th October 2008

Kircubbin played in appalling weather conditions as they hosted Queen's Grads to the village last Saturday. Thankfully from a Kircubbin point of view the performance was greatly improved on the early weeks of the season, but unfortunately the result didn't go Kircubbin's way as they eventually lost 0-1.
Queens didn't start the game well and Kircubbin took full advantage pressing forward at every opportunity, but the visiting keeper was in fine form and deserved a man of the match award for several outstanding saves. The best chance of the first half fell to Kircubbin's Brendan Masterson who found himself through on goal, but the big keeper was quickly off his line to save at Brendan's feet. Kircubbin had a few more half chances before the half, but were unable to break down a stubborn Grads defense. 0-0 at half time.

In the second 45 Kircubbin continued on a similar vein to the first half, but were unable to find the elusive goal. Queens however managed to convert their only chance of the half and took a 0-1 lead against the run of play. With twenty minutes left on the clock, Kircubbin pressed forward in search of an equalizer. Sean Clancy again found the keeper in superb form as he saved the Queens team yet again. Kircubbin's task was made more difficult as they were reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Sean Masterson, for what seemed to be a case of mistaken identity. With time running out Kircubbin were camped inside the Queens half, but the entire Grads team were now defending the goal and managed to hold out to win the three points.

This week the team travel to Kilroot. Transport to leave at 1pm.
