Dromore travelled to Kircubbin needing all three points in order to avoid a tight relegation fight in the last week of the season. Kircubbin on the other hand have secured their place in Division 2B for next season, and were now playing out the remainder of the season. The visitors obviously had the bit between their teeth for this fixture, and were a much tougher opposition than earlier in the season.

With four games in eight days, and a further three games in 7, the high density of games was obviously having an effect on the Kircubbin team. A deflated performance all round from the Kircubbin team allowed Dromore to control the game for long spells. Although the first 45 minutes was scoreless the game was already looking good for the visitors, as they were winning all the breaking balls and dominating the game all over the field.

The turning point of the game for Kircubbin was midway through the first half, when team captain Jonnie Clarke missed an open net from six yards out. With the goal gaping, Jonnie somehow managed to scoop his half volley over the bar. This gave the Dromore team more confidence and minutes later they took the lead with a wonderful strike from over 30 yards. The ball flew high into the top corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. Their determination for all three points was evident as they pushed on in search of the decisive second goal which came in the dying minutes of the game, to secure maximum points on the day, but more importantly it almost guarantees league safety this season.
